Choose your base in Istanbul

Istanbul is divided by water and hills, so the best hotel area depends on which side of the city you will use most. Sultanahmet is convenient for historic monuments, Karaköy and Galata offer central access with a lively dining scene, and Kadıköy gives a more local Asian-side base. Treat the bridge crossing as a real part of the itinerary.

Best areas for different trips

Sultanahmet

Best for a first visit focused on Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the historic peninsula.

It is highly convenient for monuments but quieter and more tourist-oriented at night.

Galata and Karaköy

A flexible base for dining, views, nightlife, and access to both historic and modern areas.

Steep streets and tram connections are worth considering with heavy bags.

Kadıköy

Good for repeat visitors wanting markets, cafés, and a local neighborhood atmosphere.

Plan ferry or bridge time before booking activities on the European side.

Arriving via IST

IST is far northwest of the historic center. Airport buses, taxis, and private transfers serve the main districts, but traffic can make arrival times unpredictable. Confirm the hotel’s exact location and late check-in instructions, especially when arriving after a long international flight.
